Child and Adolescent Therapy

Child and adolescent therapy focuses on addressing the unique psychological and emotional needs of young people. Because parents usually initiate the therapy, our therapists establish a non-adversarial relationship with the child and work to help the child understand how a problem is getting in their way.

The goals of therapy for children and adolescents can include increasing their emotional literacy by learning to identify and express feelings in a healthy and constructive manner; addressing problematic behaviors such as aggression, defiance, or hyperactivity; developing strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges; improving interactions with peers, family, and teachers; resolving issues within the family dynamic; and promoting academic success by addressing underlying psychological issues that may hinder school performance.

Adult Therapy

Individual therapy is a collaborative process between therapist and client aimed at promoting mental health and emotional well-being. The goals of therapy can include gaining a deeper understanding of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors; improving emotional regulation and strategies to manage and cope with emotions more effectively; tackling specific issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationships; and modifying harmful or unproductive ways of coping and developing healthier habits.

At SCHOTTLAND ASSOCIATES, we employ various therapeutic frameworks to guide the practice of individual therapy. Our therapists are trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Therapy, Schema Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy (ABA).
